In brief: Railroad modelers plan open house

GREENACRES – The Evergreen Railroad Modelers will have an open house tonight at the Greenacres Shopping Center, 18213 East Appleway Ave., from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Modelers, made up of more than 20 members, have spent the last two years creating an HO layout in a 25-foot by 60-foot room. The railroad model has mountains covered with trees, city scenes, towns, 18 bridges, tunnels and a seaport. It also includes numerous trains running with sounds of steam and diesels.

The event is open to the public.

Valley Mission Pool gets spooky

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Spokane Valley Parks and Recreation Department will give children and their families a spooky good time Oct. 22, 23, 29 and 30, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., at Valley Mission “Haunted” Pool.

Cost for fright night at Valley Mission Pool is $3 per person or $2, plus a can of food for Spokane Valley Partners food bank.

The creepy fun is intended for those 12 and older. Children younger than 12 are welcome to come get spooked with a parent or guardian.
