Aging Well Classes and Events – Reiki: Class provides an overview of this ancient Japanese healing art and how it works on healing for the body, mind and spirit. Handouts are provided and we will discuss not only about this healing art but also how it is used in various healing settings, hospitals, clinics and private offices. Today, 10 a.m.-noon. Meditation 101: While meditating, in the stillness of silence, we are free to experience inner peace, improve our well-being, cope with stress, find lasting joy, develop loving relationships, and appreciate each other and life. Held Tuesdays, Oct. 19-Nov. 9, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Cost is $30. Stop Smoking Now: Rev. Dr. Regina Merritt, certified hypnotherapist, will discuss if smoking is an addiction or a habit. Learn about the hidden dangers of certain substitutes, what works and what doesn’t, including the importance of a balanced diet. Through an imaginary body cleaning exercise, participants will be able to “think from the end that the smoker is now a non-smoker,” and get into the feeling that it is accepted already done. Suggestions like meditation and other methods will be given on how to continue each and every day to breathe freely and joyfully as a non-smoker. Oct. 21, 10 a.m.-noon. Cost is $12. The Chakras: The Wheels of Life: Dr. Charles Lightwalker will discuss how chakras are classified as healing centers, power centers and part of the healing practices of many traditions. Southside Senior Activity Center Exercise Classes – Balance and Agility: Class designed for those who need additional help with balance and control. Helps improve the way you walk. Also designed for those who want to further enhance the way they respond to balance and increase strength and agility. Held Thursdays, Oct. 21-Dec. 2, 1-2 p.m. Fitball for Seniors: Exercise class designed for seniors (ages 50 and older). Participants use a stability ball to sit while doing a simple aerobic workout to strengthen the arms, legs and abs while listening to a simple music rhythm. Held Thursdays, Oct. 21-Dec. 2, 2-3 p.m. Zumba-Zumba-Zumba!: Combines Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program while enjoying a good workout. Working out with Zumba provides an exciting hour of calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life.
