Area roundup: Sasquatch post road win at Walla Walla

Kealey Johnston had 11 kills and Sasha Mitchell added seven blocks Wednesday as Community Colleges of Spokane outlasted Walla Walla 3-1 in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges volleyball.

CCS breezed in the first two games, 25-16 and 25-10, and won the final game 25-21 to improve to 21-5 overall and 7-1 in the East.

Kelsey Kurtz added 38 assists and three aces for the Sasquatch. Brigitte Lowe and Casey Williams had 14 digs apiece.

Brittany Dominguez had 13 kills for the Warriors (11-14, 2-6).

Men’s soccer

Andrew Mastronardi scored at 26 minutes and Zach Knechtges recorded the shutout as Community Colleges of Spokane (8-3-2, 5-1-1) registered a 1-0 win at Walla Walla CC (8-3-1, 5-2-1) in NWAACC play.

Women’s soccer

Molly Moore’s fourth goal of the season, at 16 minutes, capped a quick start as Whitworth (10-3, 8-1 Northwest Conference) posted a 3-0 win over host Whitman (5-7, 3-6) at Walla Walla.

Cory Druffel dribbled by two defenders to score during the second minute. Seven minutes later, Kelsey Griswold headed in Allie Smith’s corner kick for her first goal of the season.

The Pirates recorded their seventh shutout of the season.

• Margo Hickman scored three goals during an 11-minute span of the second half as Walla Walla CC (11-0-1, 7-0-1 NWAACC) notched a 4-1 win over visiting CCS. Nikayla Caudill scored at 83 minutes for the Sasquatch (8-2-1, 5-2-1).
