Tax deadline hits
The IRS reminds taxpayers that two important tax deadlines hit today.
• Taxpayers who used Form 4868 to request a six-month extension must file their 2009 returns. There are some exceptions, such as taxpayers serving in a combat zone or those who have been affected by a recent natural disaster.
• Today is the last day for small nonprofits that haven’t filed required forms in the last three years to do so under an amnesty program announced in July. Those that don’t file risk losing their tax-exempt status. A list of at-risk organizations is posted on the IRS website, www.irs.gov. Hundreds of nonprofits in Eastern Washington and North Idaho appear on that list.
