Hunter dies in ATV crash in north Spokane County

A North Bend, Wash., man who has been visiting north Spokane County with a hunting party for 35 years died Friday after he crashed his ATV near Reflection Lake. Donald McEwen, 63, suffocated when his 1994 4-wheeler overturned about 5:40 p.m. on Waldrons Lane near Lodge Pole Lane, about 1 mile southwest of the lake, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office announced today. McEwen was driving on the road, which has a deep rut, to help guide the rest of the hunting party to camp, the Sheriff’s Office said. His fellow hunters heard him cry for help and found him turning blue under the ATV. They began CPR, but McEwen died at the scene.
