Roots farm project plans celebration

The Roots community-supported agriculture program is having an end-of-the-season harvest party and fundraiser at 2 p.m. Saturday at its farm at 6039 Davenport St. in Dalton Gardens.

Admission is $10 per family and includes chili, cider, games and activities.

The party celebrates the end of the opening season of the Roots farm project, which is a program of Kootenai Environmental Alliance.

Subscribers buy shares in the farm and receive part of the harvest. In its first season, the Roots program had 30 shareholders, half of whom are low-income households who used their food stamp vouchers to receive fresh fruits and vegetables. People who attend the harvest party will have the chance to get their names on the list for next season’s program.
