Johnson to lead S-R’s marketing

From Staff Reports

Daniel M. Johnson has been promoted to sales and marketing director of The Spokesman-Review, effective Jan. 10. He will succeed Shaun O’L. Higgins, who is retiring.

Johnson has headed distribution and audience development for the past five years. He also headed consumer marketing, which handles private-party classified advertising and customer service.

“As head of our circulation and consumer-marketing functions Dan has ably managed one of our three largest departments and a significant portion of our overall newspaper revenue,” Publisher W. Stacey Cowles said Tuesday. “He has been instrumental in the marketing of new digital platforms such as our e-edition. These areas are at the forefront of change in our rapidly changing industry and Dan has consistently demonstrated the energy, flexibility and concern that uniquely qualify him for his new role.”

Johnson, 43, is a veteran of newspaper companies in Denver and Phoenix. His father was a longtime features reporter for the Denver Post.

“I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead,” he said. “I value greatly the opportunities I’ve been offered and the great trust that is being placed in me at this important point in our newspaper company’s history. We offer quality products across multiple platforms and we will continue to provide great value to our readers and advertisers.”
