Prep roundup: LC claims girls soccer title

Lewis and Clark received an assist from University in clinching the Greater Spokane League girls soccer title Wednesday.

Jess Kennedy scored the first goal and assisted on the second as visiting LC (14-0-1, 8-0, 23 points) held off Mt. Spokane 2-1.

The win gave LC a six-point gap over second-place Mead (11-2-1, 6-2, 17 points) with one regular-season match left after the Panthers lost to visiting University 2-1 in a shootout.

Mt. Spokane (7-6, 3-5, 10 points) scored with 2 minutes left against LC on Sierra Bezdicek’s through ball to Alli Floyd.

Kolby Falco of U-Hi (7-3, 5-3, 12 points) made a save on Mead’s fifth shooter as the Titans won the shootout 4-3. Anne Millard scored at 62 minutes for U-Hi, and Mead’s Kara Marbury tied the match 3 minutes later.

Elsewhere, Maddie Miley scored off a crossing pass from Jessica Webber with 2 minutes left in the second overtime as Ferris (7-4-1, 4-4, 11 points) posted a 1-0 win over North Central (2-10, 2-6, seven points) at Albi Stadium. … A Gonzaga Prep corner kick in the second minute deflected off a defender for the game’s lone score as the host Bullpups (10-4, 4-4, 14 points) took a 1-0 win over Shadle Park (8-5, 3-5, 10 points). … Jasmine Ayalla finished with three goals and one assist to lead Central Valley (10-3, 5-3, 16 points) to a 7-1 win over visiting Rogers (1-9, 0-8).

Cross country

Greater Spokane League: Lewis and Clark’s boys (7-2) swept a three-way meet at Finch Arboretum by placing three runners in the top six. Andrew Gardner of Mead (4-5) won in 15 minutes, 54 seconds, 11 seconds ahead of LC’s Kenji Bierig. Ferris (6-3) won twice and Gonzaga Prep (1-8) was swept. Among girls, Audrey Hiatt (20:01) of G-Prep (6-3) earned an 8-second win over Alison Keenan of LC (3-6). Mead (8-1) placed three in the top seven to sweep. Ferris (3-6) was swept. … At Seven Mile, Central Valley’s girls (8-1) and boys (3-6) swept the top five positions against Rogers (both 0-9). Kaden Woolf (16:44) topped the boys while Jamie Lambie (20:17) led the girls.

Great Northern League: Deer Park’s boys (6-0) won the league title with wins over West Valley (4-2) and East Valley (3-3) at Plantes Ferry Park. EV’s Cody Edwards (16:43) won the 5,000-meter race. DP’s girls (5-1) also beat EV (4-2) and WV (3-3) to finish in second place. EV’s Alyssa Harmon (20:47) led the way. … Winner Sanne Holland ran 19:10 as the host Cheney girls (6-0) wrapped up their title with a win over Clarkston (1-5). Devon Poulson’s 16:49 guided the Cheney boys (5-1) past Clarkston (0-6). … Aaron Haugen ran 17:56 to lead Pullman’s boys (2-4) over visiting Medical Lake (1-5). ML’s girls (2-4) beat Pullman (0-6), but the Greyhounds’ Sarel Luewus (22:08) topped the field.

Volleyball

Great Northern League: Elisha Allred had 13 kills to lead five teammates with more than seven as East Valley (7-4) recorded a 3-1 win over visiting Clarkston (5-6).
