Spokane Tribe awarded federal grant

The Spokane Tribe of Indians is one of two Native American governmental organizations to receive a federal Sustainable Communities Challenge Grant, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced Wednesday. The $1.5 million grant will be used by the tribe to develop a master plan for new affordable, energy-efficient housing on the reservation. Also receiving a grant is the Laguna Pueblo in New Mexico.
