Parka-wearing man robs bank in Rathdrum
The Wells Fargo bank in Rathdrum was robbed at gunpoint Thursday morning by someone wearing a large parka and an orange ski mask, a news release from the Rathdrum Police Department said.
Witnesses described the robber as a white man in his 20s who was about 5-foot-5, with a slender to medium build. He entered the bank around 11:39 a.m., walked up to a teller, pointed a gun and demanded cash.
The robber fled south on state Highway 41, then headed west on state Highway 53, the release said. He was driving a two-door silver compact, described as a “newer” Honda.
The Rathdrum Police Department is working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate the robbery. Police do not know whether the bank robbery is related to a bomb threat that occurred about 40 minutes earlier at nearby Garwood Elementary School, the release said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Rathdrum police at (208) 687-0711 or the FBI at (208) 664-5128.
