EVHS students plan blood drive
The student activities class at East Valley High School, 15711 E. Wellesley Ave,, will hold a community blood drive Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Ronnie Jarvis, a senior in the class, said students who are 16 and older can donate blood. Students who are 16 and 17 years old must have a signed parent consent form. Donors must be at least 5-foot-4 and weigh at least 120 pounds. Anyone who has received a tattoo or piercing cannot donate, and all donors will have a short physical exam before donating.
There are two kinds of donations available. Donors can donate whole blood which, Jarvis said, would take about 20 to 30 minutes to donate. Donors also have the option of donating platelets, which would take a little longer.
Jarvis said there will be food and beverages served after someone donates.
He added that members of the community are welcome to donate, as well. While students can sign up during lunches – they need to bring their consent form and make an appointment – community members should send Jarvis an e-mail to make an appointment.

• The sports teams and activity clubs of East Valley High School, 15711 E. Wellesley Ave., will present the sixth annual “A Knight at the Auction,” a silent and live auction, today at 6:30 p.m.
The proceeds will support student activities and Visa and MasterCards will be accepted.

• The clubs and activities of East Valley High School will present a Fall Festival Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.
The event will include games, a haunted maze and candy. Children in the Greater Spokane Valley area are invited to attend and encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.
Admission is free, but the National Honor Society will collect nonperishable food items for the local food bank.

• The school’s recent, “Tackle Hunger” campaign during its Oct. 8 varsity football game raised $284.54 by selling “I Tackled Hunger” stickers and fake tattoos.
The funds will benefit Second Harvest of the Inland Northwest and the school will continue its fundraiser through October.
Gonzaga Prep AP Scholars
Local students from Gonzaga Prep recently earned AP Scholar status for their academic excellence on their college-level Advanced Placement Program exams.
AP Scholars with Distinction, given to students who receive an average grade of 3.5 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3.0 or higher on five or more of the exams, include Jackson Andrews and Benjamin Rowland of Valleyford; Amanda Boik of Otis Orchards; Edward Mills of Spangle; and Ryan Ogden of Spokane Valley.
AP Scholars with Honor, granted to students who receive an average grade of 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3.0 or higher on four or more of the exams, include Anthony Glatt of Spokane Valley and Sara Metzger of Greenacres.
Students took their AP exams in May after completing college-level courses at Gonzaga Prep.
Team Sportsmanship Award winners
Alexus Delecruz, Ashley Woods and Marla Prothero of Bowdish Middle School, have been recognized by the Inland Empire Football Officials Association as the Team Sportsmanship Award Winners for the week of Sept. 26 through Oct. 2.
The students were commended for their efforts to promote sportsmanship through attitude, fair play and respect.
