Brown bowls big scores in style

Bryan Brown may be only 16 years old, but he has apparently “perfected” the two-handed bowling style.

At least he had it down pat on Oct. 16 at North Bowl.

Brown, a student at Lewis and Clark High School, rolled a 300 game to cap a 669 three-game series in league play.

Unlike the two-handed style used by many youngsters learning to bowl, who cradle the ball in their hands and swing it between their legs before releasing it, the two-handed style Brown uses takes the ball past the hip with both hands before it is released.

“This new style is really becoming popular” on the PBA tour, noted David Montecucco, a pretty good bowler in his own right and a student teacher at LC.

“Bryan does not throw the ball in the traditional one-handed style, instead (he) uses both hands to propel the ball down the lane,” Montecucco wrote in reporting Brown’s accomplishment.

Brown started the day with a 220, in which he strung six strikes to get going and finished that game with eight, and followed with a 149 in which he had five strikes. He finished with 25 strikes in 30 frames.
