Around the country: Clemson conquers G-Tech

Andre Ellington rushed for a career high 166 yards and two long touchdowns as Clemson ended a four-game losing streak to Georgia Tech in a 27-13 win on Saturday in Clemson, S.C.

The Tigers (4-3, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) hadn’t beaten the Yellow Jackets (5-3, 3-2) in four years, a run that included a 39-34 loss in last season’s ACC title game.

But Ellington struck for scoring runs of 55 and 42 yards in the opening half and added a 10-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter – the sophomore’s first of his career – to end Georgia Tech’s streak.

Navy 35, Notre Dame 17: Ricky Dobbs scored three touchdowns and Alexander Teich ran for 210 yards to lead the Midshipmen (5-2) to their third victory against the Fighting Irish (4-4) in the last four seasons, this one a rout at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Baylor 47, Kansas State 42: Jay Finley rushed for a school-record 250 yards, Robert Griffin threw for a career-high 404 yards and four touchdowns and the Bears (6-2, 3-1) became bowl eligible for the first time since joining the Big 12, beating the Wildcats (5-2, 2-2) in Waco, Texas.

Baylor has not played in a bowl game since 1994, back when the Bears were a member of the now defunct Southwest Conference.

Penn State 33, Minnesota 21: Matt McGloin threw two touchdown passes to Derek Moye in relief of injured starter Rob Bolden, and the Nittany Lions (4-3, 1-2 Big Ten) beat the struggling Golden Gophers (1-7, 0-4) in Minneapolis.

Texas Tech 27, Colorado 24: Matt Williams’ 36-yard field goal with 2:09 left capped Texas Tech’s comeback from a 10-point deficit and gave the Red Raiders (4-3, 2-3 Big 12) a win over the Buffaloes (3-4, 0-3) in Boulder, Colo.

BYU 25, Wyoming 20: Freshman linebacker Kyle Van Noy batted down a fourth-down pass with 16 seconds left and the Cougars (3-5, 2-2 Mountain West) held off the Cowboys (2-6, 0-4) in Provo, Utah.

Maryland 24, Boston College 21: Maryland safety Antwine Perez had two interceptions and a fumble recovery, and Danny O’Brien threw for three touchdowns to lead the Terrapins (5-2, 2-1 ACC) to a victory over the Eagles (2-5, 0-4) in Boston. The Eagles have lost five straight games.

Pittsburgh 41, Rutgers 21: Jon Baldwin caught a 45-yard touchdown pass and set up two other scores with difficult catches, Tino Sunseri threw for three touchdowns and the Panthers (4-3, 2-0 Big East) rolled to a victory over the Scarlet Knights (4-3, 1-1) in Pittsburgh.
