College volleyball: Cougars swept by Wildcats

Cursty Jackson and Tiffany Owens combined for 21 kills and No. 25 Arizona (15-7, 4-5) swept Pac-10 foe Washington State (6-13, 0-9) in Pullman.

Meagan Ganzer led the Cougars with 12 kills as WSU finished the first half of the Pac-10 slate without a win.

• Kindra Carlson finished with a match-high 13 kills and Lauren Barfield added eight blocks and four kills as No. 7 Washington (17-3, 6-3) swept Arizona State (9-12, 4-5) in Pac-10 play in Seattle.

The Huskies allowed just a .126 hitting percentage in the match against ASU.

• Amanda Grumbach and Kaimi Rocha combined for 23 kills and Whitworth (13-6, 10-2) won three sets by a combined eight points, narrowly sweeping George Fox (9-13, 4-8) in Northwest Conference play in Newberg, Ore.

The Pirates remain a game back of NWC-leading Puget Sound.

• Chenoa Coviare finished with 15 kills and nine blocks to lead Eastern Washington (5-15, 4-6) a 3-1 victory over Idaho State (13-10, 5-5) in Big Sky action in Pocatello, Idaho.

Shelby Puckett added 14 kills for the Eagles, who dumped ISU a day after the Bengals upset Northern Colorado, the top team in the BSC.

• Katie Hronek tallied 23 kills as Portland (9-14, 2-5) handed Gonzaga (2-21, 0-7) its school-record-tying 19th consecutive loss, winning 3-2 in WCC play in Portland.

The Bulldogs battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the match at 2-2, but fell 15-9 in the final set.

• Tina Strahinic led with 13 kills and four blocks and North Idaho (22-5, 8-0) swept Eastern Utah (7-13, 2-6) in SWAC play in Coeur d’Alene.
