Big Sky roundup: Late TD propels Grizzlies

C.J. Atkins snared a 1-yard touchdown pass from Justin Roper with 5 seconds to play Saturday to give Montana a 24-21 Big Sky victory over Northern Arizona in Missoula.

Atkins outwrestled Northern Arizona cornerback Randy Hale Jr. on a jump ball in the end zone to cap a 14-play, 56-yard drive. Atkins also opened the scoring for Montana with a 48-yard run on a double reverse play in the first quarter.

NAU took a 21-17 lead on an 11-yard Giovannie Dixon touchdown run with 1:59 left in the game.

Montana State 37, Northern Colorado 35: Denarius McGhee passed for a career-high 400 yards and four touchdowns – including a 77-yarder to Orenzo Davis – as the Bobcats rallied to defeat the Bears in Bozeman.

Dylan Orms was 19 for 34 for 344 yards and four touchdowns and Jace Davis had eight receptions for 207 yards and two scores for the Bears.

Weber State 44, Portland State 41: Running back Vai Tafuna scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with 21 seconds left in the game to lift the Wildcats over the Vikings in Ogden, Utah.

The Wildcats trailed for most of the game before scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter. Tafuna and Bo Bolen combined to rush for 309 yards and four TDs.
