WAC roundup: No cakewalk for Boise St.

The first six games formed the marquee half of the Boise State football season.

The last six form the money half.

The No. 2 Broncos, who have taken three of the past four days off, got back to work Friday to prepare for Tuesday’s home game against Louisiana Tech (5:05 p.m., ESPN2).

Boise State (6-0, 2-0 WAC) has won its three October games by a combined score of 164-14 with two shutouts.

“The first part of the season just sets the stage for the second part,” coach Chris Petersen said. “That’s really what it’s all about – everybody will tell you that – how do you finish?”

The Broncos’ second-half slate does include some intrigue.

Louisiana Tech has generated 1,110 yards of offense in the past two weeks. Hawaii (Nov. 6) has emerged as a WAC title contender. Idaho (Nov. 12) will be a nutty atmosphere. And Nevada (Nov. 26) has given the Broncos a fight each of the past three years. Fresno State (Nov. 19) and Utah State (Dec. 4) also are on the schedule.

“We have to keep our focus and we have to keep practicing at a high level,” Petersen said. “This season is a grind for everybody and it’s not going to be done just by showing up on Saturday or Tuesday or whatever. The preparation has to be meticulous and has to be with great energy. That’s what we have to keep doing.”

Fresno State 33, San Jose State 18: Robbie Rouse rushed for 116 yards and scored two touchdowns and receiver Isaiah Burse threw for a touchdown as the Bulldogs defeated the Spartans in San Jose, Calif., on Saturday.

Kevin Goessling kicked a career-high four field goals for FSU.

Hawaii 45, Utah State 7: Alex Green ran for 172 yards and four touchdowns, both career highs, as the Warriors ran past the Aggies in Logan, Utah.
