Sunday’s “Smart Bombs” column misstated the Esquire Deficit Commission’s cost-saving item on Social Security. Here is the correct version:

“Currently, the retirement age is 66, and starting in 2021, it is scheduled to gradually increase to 67 at a rate of two months a year. As Americans today are living and working longer than in previous generations, the commission proposes to instead begin gradually increasing the retirement age to 70 before 2021, but at a rate of one month per year.”

The column incorrectly noted that the phase-in to age 70 would be complete by 2021. Also note that all changes were set to begin in 2013.
