Ad response disappointing

By making the inane statement that “I can’t really comment on an ad that I’m not responsible for,” Michael Baumgartner is approving it.

If he really didn’t know anything about the ad, he would have immediately found out (or told his people to) what the truth is. If the claims were true, he could have said, yes, Chris Marr is a sex predator and done some serious crowing.

If the ad twists the truth (and it appears to me that it does) then Mr. Baumgartner would have been in the position of condemning the ad as being dishonest and earned a lot of respect for his honesty.

If he didn’t have time to (between publication of the ad and being interviewed by the reporter) he could have disclaimed knowledge of the ad, decrying the fact that people acted in his name without approval, and if the ad was not true, he did not support in any way these dishonest people whom “he didn’t have any knowledge of.” (Yeah, right.)

But he is a politician. He’s new at the game, but learning fast.
