Area roundup: CCS men’s soccer takes over 3rd

Josue Hernandez scored twice in the first half and Sam Palmer finished with one goal and two assists to help Community Colleges of Spokane (9-4-4, 6-2-2 NWAACC) to a 7-0 men’s soccer win at Wenatchee Valley (4-9-1, 2-8-1).

Andrew Mastronardi added one goal and one assist for the Sasquatch (20 points), who took over third place in the East Division by themselves when Walla Walla (18 points) tied Treasure Valley. The top three in the East advance to postseason play.

Women’s soccer

Lateashea Currie scored three goals as CC Spokane (9-3-3, 6-3-3 NWAACC) solidified its hold on third place in the East with a 7-0 win at Wenatchee Valley (3-11-0, 2-10-0).

Tabitha Grow’s goal at 22 minutes gave the Sasquatch a 3-0 lead. CCS (21 points) leads Yakima Valley by four points for the division’s final playoff berth.

Volleyball

East Division fourth-place Columbia Basin (17-16, 6-5) upset visiting CC Spokane 19-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-15 at Pasco.

Karis Gamache had nine kills and Kealey Johnston added 19 digs for the second-place Sasquatch (26-9, 8-2).

Women’s golf

Idaho Teo Poplawski finished three rounds at 5-under-par 211 and placed fifth at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek (Nev.) Golf Club.

Idaho (906) placed 14th of 17 teams. Washington State (920) finished in last place, with sophomore Emma Betland tying for 27th at 222.
