A Post Falls man and his teenage daughter remained missing late Wednesday in North Idaho after failing to return from a hunting trip Monday. Shoshone County search and rescue teams searched the St. Joe River area for the pair Wednesday but suspended the search until this morning.
The Fairchild Air Force Base’s 36th rescue squadron, including a rescue helicopter and a medical crew, will assist with search efforts starting at 7 a.m. today.
Matthew Gering, 37, and Kia Gering, 14, went hunting Monday in Unit 6, which covers parts of Shoshone, Benewah, Latah and Clearwater counties. They were supposed to contact relatives Monday night but didn’t check in, a Shoshone County dispatcher said.
Gering was last seen driving a tan 2000 Chevy Silverado with Idaho plate K458325. He has not answered calls to his cell phone, and the last activity on the phone was recorded at 5:23 a.m. Monday, the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office said.
A search command post has been set up at Railroad and 10th streets in St. Maries.
Anyone who sees the missing hunters or the truck is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (208) 556-1114.
