Fight at apartment ends in arrest

Fri., Oct. 29, 2010

An effort at retaliation went badly for a Spokane Valley man Wednesday night.

Roger D. Holmes, 39, was intent on revenge when he went to the apartment of a neighbor armed with a military knife, according to police.

He ended up in a downtown Spokane hospital with scissor wounds to the head and now is facing a charge of first-degree assault against the 47-year-old neighbor.

A week ago, the neighbor reportedly had broken into Holmes’ apartment and assaulted him, police said.

Holmes went back to the neighbor’s apartment about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday armed with a military knife and forced his way inside, where another fight ensued.

Officers called to the scene found Holmes on the ground in front of one unit at the Valley Green Apartments, 12400 E. Eighth Ave., and the other man inside a second apartment with stab wounds to his chest, thumb and neck. He required hospitalization.

Police seized a knife, a large screwdriver, a pair of shears and an open pocket knife. Detectives reported that alcohol and drugs may have played a role in the episode.
