Prep game postponed after crash

TACOMA – The bus carrying the Lakes football team to Sumner was in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 on Friday evening. A septic tanker rear-ended a Toyota Tundra pickup truck, smashing the Tundra into the back of the bus.

The game, which will determine the South Puget Sound League 3A champion, has been postponed and will be played at 4 p.m. today at Sunset Chev Stadium.

The Clover Park School District was concerned that some players might have lingering injuries related to the collision and asked for the game to be played today.

Lakes athletic director Joe Keller said some players complained of sore necks or backs, but no players suffered any broken bones or cuts.

The drivers of the trucks weren’t as lucky and Lancers coach Dave Miller said the players said a prayer for both while they waited about 90 minutes on the side of the interstate for another bus to take them to Sunset Chev Stadium.
