Willson, Choka lead district pack

Morgan Willson of Colfax won the individual title in 19 minutes, 36 seconds for 5,000 meters to punch her ticket to state, and Northwest Christian won the team title at the District 7 2B/1B state-qualifying cross country meet at Plantes Ferry Park in Spokane Valley.

NWC tallied 28 points with Anna Henry and Christina Anderson finishing second and third, respectively. St. George’s was the second team to qualify for state with 51 points.

In the boys race, Maxwell Choka of St. George’s paced the field in 16:34, leading the Dragons to a state berth after finishing third with 87 points. Also qualifying for state were first-place finisher Republic, Davenport and Northwest Christian.

The Idaho State championships will be held today, while regionals dominate the schedule in Washington. The Washington 4A and 3A regionals will be held at Walla Walla Point Park in Wenatchee and the 2A regional is set for The Gorge at George.
