WAC roundup: Fast start spurs Nevada

Colin Kaepernick passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another as Nevada defeated Utah State 56-42 on Saturday night in Reno, Nev.

Mike Ball had three touchdowns for the Wolf Pack, who built a 35-0 halftime lead. Diondre Borel completed 24 of 38 passes for 399 yards and two touchdowns for Utah State, which rallied with a big second half but got no closer than 14 points. Borel also ran for a score.

Kaepernick had 102 of his 106 yards rushing in the first half, including a 56-yard touchdown run that put the Wolf Pack ahead 28-0 with 2:18 left in the half.

New Mexico State 29, San Jose State 27: Wide receiver Taveon Rogers caught an 8-yard touchdown pass with no time left on the clock as the Aggies beat the Spartans in Las Cruces, N.M.

The Aggies drove 79 yards in eight plays in the game’s final 52 seconds for the winning score.

Rogers, making his first start of the season for New Mexico State, made five catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Matt Christian completed 23 of 44 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns.

The Spartans trailed 17-3 at halftime but got back into the game with 10 points in the third quarter and 14 more in the fourth.
