Home life affects future

This November, with Proposition 1, the Spokane Children’s Investment Fund, Spokane residents will have the opportunity to vote in favor of helping local Spokane children.

As a pediatric physician serving Spokane for almost a decade, I have seen too many adolescents fail to graduate from high school. Many of these young adults lack a supportive home environment, which greatly contributes to success in school. Sadly, this can be the beginning of a life dependent on social services.

This small tax can support our children who are at risk. Because the money from this fund will stay local and be controlled by a local committee, we will see more of our children succeed, and our community will see a long-term payoff with many positive ripple effects. I hope we all can vote yes on Proposition 1 for a better future for Spokane.
