Supply ship docks at space station

MOSCOW – A cargo ship docked with the International Space Station on Saturday, bringing 2.5 tons of food, water, oxygen and fuel for the orbiting laboratory and its U.S.-Russian crew, Russian news agencies reported.

The unmanned spacecraft, a Progress M-08M ship, blasted off Wednesday from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

The space outpost is manned by U.S. astronauts Douglas Wheelock, Shannon Walker and Scott Kelly and Russians Alexander Kaleri, Oleg Skripochka and Fyodor Yurchikhin.

Also among the cargo were presents and letters for the crew.

Russian agencies said automatic systems failed for Saturday’s docking, forcing a manual procedure. The switch to manual docking is routine, and has happened before.
