Coeur d’Alene council election going to trial

Associated Press
A disputed Coeur d’Alene city council election is apparently going to trial. First District Judge Charles Hosack denied a request for summary judgment by incumbent Mike Kennedy on Tuesday. Challenger Jim Brannon filed the lawsuit against Kennedy and the city of Coeur d’Alene, disputing Kennedy’s five-vote win in the election. The city has since been dropped from the lawsuit. Brannon has alleged that some votes for Kennedy were cast illegally by people who don’t live in Coeur d’Alene. Kennedy denies the allegations. The judge says there is a lot to prove in the case, but he ruled that it has come too far to cut off now. The trial is scheduled to take place in two weeks.
