Firefighters have railroad tie fire under control
The Spokane Fire Department has a fire in the BNSF Railway yard under control.
The fire started in some railroad ties on BNSF’s Yardley yard east of Havana, north of the Spokane Interstate Fairgrounds.
It’s still burning, but fire crews have gained control, officials say.

Suspiciously Interesting…this happened in the same general location a few years ago with a huge pile of old scrap RR ties. I find it interesting that these ties would somehow catch fire right after the rain as well. Also RR ties aren’t really that easy to light especially in cool weather.
If this is due to some transient arson then where is the RR security? Might this be BNRR way of getting rid of old waste RR ties? If so why do they have to do this in an area where the aquifer is only 50-60 feet down…I sometimes wonder who (if anyone) holds the Rail Road’s accountable for their frequent assaults on our local environment?
