In brief: $13,000, five tons of food collected

CHENEY – The third annual Eastern Washington University community food drive raised more than $13,000 and five tons of food for the Cheney Food Bank, Second Harvest of Spokane and Cheney Outreach.

Teams from various university departments competed for prizes based on how many pounds of food they collected. Businesses and members of the community also took part in the food drive.

$400,000 raised for clubs, Rypien

SPOKANE COUNTY – The recent Zak!Charity Open raised more than $400,000 to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County and the Rypien Foundation.

The 11th annual event included for the first time a poker tournament, held at the Northern Quest Hotel, and an additional golf tournament at Manito Golf and Country Club. The Northern Quest Resort and Casino hosted a dinner and auction, and a golf tournament was held at Spokane Country Club.
