Filed Former Lance Armstrong teammate Floyd Landis, who has accused the seven-time Tour de France winner of doping, has filed a federal whistle-blower lawsuit, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Journal reported Friday that Landis has filed a lawsuit under the federal False Claims Act, which allows Americans to sue on behalf of the government alleging the government has been defrauded. Armstrong won six of his Tour victories with the U.S. Postal Service team.

Approved The NHL has signed off on Ilya Kovalchuk’s latest contract with the New Jersey Devils. Five weeks after rejecting a 17-year, $102 million contract, the league approved a 15-year, $100 million deal after reaching an agreement with the union on an amendment covering long-term contracts.

Suspended Georgia safety Alec Ogletree has been suspended at least one game following a misdemeanor theft charge in a June incident in which Ogletree was in possession of a scooter helmet that was reported missing from a student- athlete academic center.

Recovering Duke basketball player Kyle Singler is recovering from knee surgery. Last season’s Final Four most outstanding player had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee because of discomfort. He is expected to recover in time for preseason practice.

Arrested Boise State running backs coach Keith Abu Bhonapha was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and won’t make the trip for the Broncos’ opener Monday.

Pleaded Michigan State junior guard Korie Lucious pleaded guilty to misdemeanor reckless driving. Lucious, 20, had been charged with operating while intoxicated after he was pulled over early Monday near campus.

Found A North Cascades National Park spokeswoman says a search helicopter spotted the body of John Arum, an experienced mountain climber and son of boxing promoter Bob Arum who had been the object of a five-day search. The body was spotted on a mountain about 85 miles northeast of Seattle.

Retiring The high-scoring forward for the United States, Major League Soccer and England’s Fulham, Brian McBride, is retiring at the end of the season. McBride, 38, has spent the last 21/2 years with his hometown Chicago Fire.
