3 officers shoot armed man in Vancouver, Wash.

Associated Press

VANCOUVER, Wash. — A man who refused to put down a gun was shot and killed by three officers early today in Vancouver.

The Columbian reports police had responded to a report of an armed man about 3:30 a.m. at an intersection just west of downtown.

Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp told KGW-TV the man was “engaging in threatening activity” and refusing officer commands when he was shot.

A neighbor reported hearing six to eight shots. No officers were injured.

It was the seventh officer-involved killing in Washington in less than three weeks. Another man was wounded in a police shooting.

On Saturday, a man was killed in a confrontation with Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies at Gold Bar after they used a stun gun.

On Friday, police shot and killed a man who was waving a knife at a bus stop in Tacoma.

On Friday night, Seattle police shot and wounded a man who leveled a rifle at officers. Police said the wounded man remained in stable condition Tuesday.

Federal Way police on Aug. 31 shot and killed a man in a stolen truck they said tried to run down an officer.

That same day, a man stopped breathing after Pierce County deputies used a stun gun on him during a disturbance at an apartment in Spanaway.

On Aug. 30, a Seattle officer shot and killed a wood carver at a downtown intersection when he refused to put down his knife.

On Aug. 25, a Spokane County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed Wayne Scott Creach, a pastor and the owner of Spokane Valley nursery who had armed himself to check on what he thought was a prowler in the parking lot.

I guess the cops are trying to even the score after their losses last spring.

They better watch out, “we” outnumber them more than a thousand to one.

For those posters on the Creach case, I’m sure you’ll find reasons for why the cops were in the wrong for shooting these civilians.

Wow! The Westsiders make our force look like a bunch of slackers!

yes Thoreau - the cops are always in the wrong when they kill civilians - even the “bad” - criminal ones. Their job is to protect citizens not kill em (and its up to the courts to try, convict and sentence them!) Unfortunately people get shot in the line of police duty, I’m sure the cops don’t like doing it - they just need some stronger incentives to find alternatives (IMHO)

Sad to see that Mr. Creach is reduced to a Nursery owner. His life was much more than that.

Police all over the world have criteria they follow from day one of training up to veteran officers who have over twenty plus years on the force. This is not refined to the police in the USA - police in various countries have the same protocol when it comes to the decision of what disposition (death or wounding or negotiating to a life-allowance) they will take with a person brandishing or waving a weapon or threatening (in any manner) police officers or others with a weapon/s.

Please do not attach this comment with what unfortunately happened to Mr. Creach, however, as all the investigation interviews and evidence has not been published as yet. There are still legal tie-ups.

But, as always, blame the cops. If Mr. Creach fired his .45 and killed the police officer, I wonder what the community would be saying then?

Is this a threat to our officers out there? This isn’t even one ounce being funny. And you wonder why the police are jumpy? It’s because of people like you making stupid threats.

It’s not a threat, gramms, it’s simple math. There ARE more citizens than cops and MANY of us are armed.
