Stabbing sends one man to hospital, one to jail

One Spokane man was taken to the hospital and police took another to jail after a stabbing at Pacific Avenue and Division Street after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Spokane police Sgt. Kevin King said in a news release that the injured man sustained chest stab wounds they believed were not life threatening. He was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center for treatment.

After officers arrived, they pursued the stabbing suspect on foot. The suspect, Eugene A. Young, 36, hid outside his girlfriend’s apartment building, the Kensington Court Apartments, 156 South Pine St., but a police dog located him, police said.

Officers found the knife used in the stabbing and are investigating the cause of the conflict, King said.

Young was booked into the Spokane County Jail on one count of first-degree assault.
