Colfax opens with win

McNannay leads way past DeSales

WALLA WALLA – Tyler McNannay hit the ground running in Colfax’s season opener against DeSales on Friday, rushing for 290 yards and three touchdowns to help lead the Bulldogs to a 38-19 victory in nonleague action.

Behind McNannay’s 65-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, his first of two on the night, Colfax took an 18-16 lead into the fourth quarter, before outscoring the Irish (1-1) 20-3 in the fourth quarter.

DeSales made the game interesting with 13 points in the third quarter behind quarterback Jeremiah Cox, who had 177 yards passing and one touchdown, a 17-yard strike to Ryan Baumgart.

But Colfax would not be denied its third victory against the Irish in the last three meetings, including last year’s showdown in the State 2B semifinals that saw Colfax shut out the Irish 19-0.

McNannay broke off a 70-yard touchdown run before Alex Teade took over, throwing for one score and rushing for another to close the scoring for the Bulldogs.

Teade hit 9 of 16 passes for 107 yards and finished with three touchdowns, while the Colfax defense held the Irish’s leading rusher, Kyle Lindgren, to 42 yards on 30 carries and one score.
