EV sweeps ML in league opener

Alyssa Dorr had 15 assists and four aces and East Valley (1-0) held off Medical Lake (0-1) 25-19 in the first game of its volleyball debut in the Great Northern League before cruising to a 3-0 win at EV. Elisha Allred led the Knights at the net with six kills, including two to ice the win in the final game.

Shelby Cheslek had 11 kills and Kara Weitz added 20 assists as Pullman (1-0) opened league play with a 25-7 romp in Game 1, en route to a 3-0 sweep of Deer Park (0-1) in its Great Northern League volleyball opener in Pullman.

Melissa Vollmer added four aces for the Greyhounds, who never allowed more than 16 points in their three-game sweep.

In other GNL action, Aaliyah Ashley-Meek paced West Valley (1-0) with 25 assists and six aces in the Eagles’ 3-0 straight-sets victory against host Cheney (0-1).

IEL 5A: Post Falls (3-0) stayed unbeaten in Inland Empire League play, fending off Coeur d’Alene (0-2) 26-24, 25-11, 20-25, 25-21 in Post Falls.

• IEL 4A: Calia Chandler had eight kills and Moscow (1-1) took advantage of several Lakeland (0-1) errors, fending off the Hawks 25-23 in the third game to earn the 3-0 win in Moscow. Amy Westberg added 20 digs for the Bears in the victory.

Intermountain League: Kelly Madsen logged seven kills to lead Timberlake (1-1) – which recorded 13 aces – to a 3-0 sweep against Bonners Ferry (0-2) in Spirit Lake. … Mariah Gladden tallied eight kills, four aces and six blocks as St. Maries (2-0) posted a 25-8 win in Game 2 and then carried the momentum to a 3-0 win against host Priest River (0-1).

• In the final nonleague matchups before Greater Spokane League play opens on Thursday, Mercedes Montoya tallied nine kills and Lewis and Clark swept visiting Rogers 25-10, 25-7, 25-5. … Sam Hill led host North Central with 23 kills in a 3-1 victory against rival Shadle Park. Kim Latwesen added 26 assists and 16 digs for the Indians. … Kiendra Chester and Kendra Reilly each recorded nine kills and one block as Central Valley staved off Ferris 3-1 at Central Valley. After dropping the second game 25-17, the Bears rallied to win the final two games 25-16, 25-14 to clinch the match. … Danika Christen finished with 25 assists, five aces and 15 digs as the Mead Panthers rallied from a 25-23 defeat in the opening game to knock off the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups 3-1 at Mead.

Girls soccer

Annalissa Druffel tallied a goal and added an assist in the first half to help lead Pullman (3-0, 1-0) to a 3-0 victory against Deer Park (0-2, 0-1) in its Great Northern League opener in Pullman.

Ali Druffel added a goal in the second half for the Greyhounds, who outshot the Stags 16-5.

In other GNL action, Gail Gallaher, Brittni Mauro and Courtney Hossfeld each knocked home goals in the first 38 minutes as visiting the West Valley Eagles (1-1, 1-0) shut out the Cheney Blackhawks (0-4, 0-1) 3-0.
