Pet discretion advised

About 11 or more years ago I wrote to the Spokane Humane Society, telling them that I was searching for a German shorthaired pointer, a breed that I knew well.

Many months later, I received a phone call saying they had located one in a frozen field, where she was attending several dead babies. The vet had examined her, put her in a warm cage, telling me I could pick her up before 4 p.m. that day.

My neighbor, hearing the call, urged me to jump into her truck, and off we went to the facility.

Arriving there, I hastened down the aisles. Seeing a notice on a door, I quickly opened it, and the beautiful creature jumped into my arms.

But now she is gone. I still weep for Misty.

Listen, readers, the only safe place to find a special breed is at the Humane Society – and “To Hartford, Hereford and Hampshire” to the criminal breeders.
