Churches to host speakers

Guest speakers are arriving at two Spokane Valley churches this week to talk about faith and earthquake recovery efforts in Haiti.

• The Rev. Marc Honorat, co-founder of Haiti ARISE Ministries, will speak at 10 a.m. Sunday at Lakeside Church at 23424 E. Knox Ave. in Liberty Lake. He will be speaking about efforts to rebuild the earthquake damaged country.

Honorat is a former child slave who founded the humanitarian organization with his wife. The organization runs a vocational college, church and Bible college in Haiti.

The public is invited to attend the discussion.

• Catholic author Mark Shea will speak at 2 p.m. today at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 503 N. Walnut Road. His talk is titled “This is My Body: An Evangelical Discovers the Real Presence.” There is no cost to attend but donations will be accepted.

Block party

Opportunity Presbyterian Church will host a block party today from noon to 4 p.m. at the church, at 202 N. Pines Road. There will be free ice cream, hot dogs and lemonade. Family activities will include crafts, face painting and a jumping castle. The public is invited.
