Top 25 roundup: Sooners hold on

DeMarco Murray gained a total of 148 yards and scored three touchdowns to help No. 7 Oklahoma hold off a late charge from Air Force’s overpowering run game to beat the Falcons 27-24 on Saturday.

Murray ran for a 5-yard touchdown and scored on a 17-yard screen pass in the third quarter as the Sooners (3-0) reeled off 17 straight points to pull away after Air Force (2-1) had tied it early in the second half.

That ended up being just enough to stave off the Falcons’ comeback bid.

(1) Alabama 62, Duke 13: At Durham, N.C., Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns in his season debut, and the Crimson Tide (3-0) routed the Blue Devils (1-2) in their highest-scoring game in 19 years.

Greg McElroy matched a career high with three scoring passes for Alabama.

(2) Ohio State 43, Ohio 7: At Columbus, Ohio, Terrelle Pryor picked apart the Bobcats’ defense with a school-record 16 consecutive completions and the Buckeyes (3-0) scored early and often to steamroll the Bobcats (1-2).

Pryor, who also ran for a touchdown, completed 22 of 29 passes for 235 yards and two scores with two interceptions.

(4) TCU 45, Baylor 10: At Fort Worth, Texas, Ed Wesley ran 19 times for 165 yards and two touchdowns, Andy Dalton completed 21 of 23 passes for 267 yards with two scores and the Horned Frogs (3-0) stretched their home winning streak to 16 games with a victory over the Bears (2-1).

(6) Texas 24, Texas Tech 14: At Lubbock, Texas, Garrett Gilbert threw for two touchdowns and 227 yards to lead the Longhorns (3-0, 1-0 Big 12) past the Red Raiders (2-1, 0-1).

Texas put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter after draining more than nine minutes off the clock and scoring.

(10) Florida 31, Tennessee 17: At Knoxville, Tenn., Mike Gillislee ran for two touchdowns and the Gators (3-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) beat the Volunteers (1-2, 0-1).

John Brantley, starting in his first road game for Florida, completed 14 of 23 for 167 yards and a TD.

(12) Arkansas 31, Georgia 24: At Athens, Ga., Ryan Mallett threw a 40-yard scoring pass to Greg Childs with 14 seconds remaining and the Razorbacks (3-0, 1-0 SEC) picked up a huge win on the road after blowing a two-touchdown lead.

The Bulldogs (1-2, 0-2) rallied from a 24-10 deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game on Washaun Ealey’s 3-yard touchdown run with 3:55 remaining.

(13) South Carolina 38, Furman 19: At Columbia, S.C., Stephen Garcia threw two touchdown passes as the Gamecocks (3-0) beat the lower-division Paladins (1-1).

Freshman tailback Marcus Lattimore ran for 97 yards and a TD for SC.

(14) Utah 56, New Mexico 14: At Albuquerque, N.M., Shaky Smithson went untouched on a 73-yard punt return touchdown capping a surge of three TDs in a span of 4:16 for the Utes (3-0) in a victory against the Lobos (0-3).

Smith finished with 223 total return yards.

(15) LSU 29, Mississippi State 7: At Baton Rouge, La., Josh Jasper set a Tigers record with five field goals, and Patrick Peterson had two of the team’s five interceptions in a victory over the Bulldogs (1-2, 0-2 SEC).

Stevan Ridley rushed for a 2-yard touchdown for LSU (3-0, 2-0).

(16) Auburn 27, Clemson 24 (OT): At Auburn, Ala., Wes Byrum kicked a 39-yard field goal in overtime and Clemson Tigers’ (2-1) Chandler Catanzaro missed a do-over kick to tie as the Auburn Tigers won.

Auburn (3-0) had rallied from a 17-0 deficit late in the first half.

(20) Michigan 42, Massachusetts 37: At Ann Arbor, Mich., Denard Robinson accounted for 345 yards and three touchdowns to help the Wolverines (3-0) hold on to beat the Minutemen (2-1).

Robinson was 10 of 14 for 241 yards throwing.

(21) West Virginia 31, Maryland 17: At Morgantown, W.Va., Geno Smith threw a career-high four touchdown passes, Noel Devine rushed for a season-high 131 yards to help the Mountaineers (3-0) beat the Terrapins (2-1).

Smith had two scoring tosses apiece to sophomore Tavon Austin and redshirt freshman Stedman Bailey as West Virginia jumped ahead 28-0 early in the third quarter.

(22) Penn State 24, Kent State 0: At State College, Pa., tailback Evan Royster and freshman quarterback Rob Bolden each ran for their first touchdowns of the season and the Nittany Lions (2-1) picked off the Golden Flashes (1-2) twice en route to a victory.

Bolden threw for 217 yards and a touchdown but had two interceptions.
