Two Navy officers lose posts at Washington base

Associated Press

BANGOR, Wash. – Two commanding officers at the Navy’s nuclear submarine base at Bangor, Wash., were relieved of their commands last week.

The Navy said Capt. Ronald Gero was relieved Friday as commander of the guided missile submarine USS Ohio’s Blue crew. The Navy said the leader of Submarine Group Nine, Rear Adm. James Caldwell, had lost confidence in Gero’s ability to command after an investigation into alleged inappropriate personal behavior.

The service said Capt. David Solms, head of the Trident Training Facility, was relieved of his command Tuesday by the head of the Submarine Learning Center in Groton, Conn., for inappropriate personal behavior. The Navy would give no further details.
