MLB notes: Torre offers an apology

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Joe Torre apologized Tuesday for saying he was curious about the New York Mets job, a comment that offended Mets manager Jerry Manuel.

“It certainly wasn’t my intention of doing that and making people believe that I wanted to manage the Mets,” Torre said before the Dodgers lost to the San Diego Padres.

Torre has managed the Dodgers for three years but is stepping down after this season. He told WFAN radio in New York on Monday that he is “curious” about managing the Mets in 2011.

However, Manuel remains New York’s manager.

“I find it also curious when someone comments about a job that someone already has,” Manuel said before Tuesday night’s loss against the Florida Marlins. “I don’t know him on a personal basis, but when things like that come out, you question the integrity.”

Attorney Larry Silverstein of Boston testified at the divorce trial of Jamie and Frank McCourt that he drafted six copies of a postnuptial marital agreement out of an abundance of caution, but his decision created a major blunder that leaves the Dodgers’ ownership in question.

When Silverstein gave the documents to the McCourts to sign in March 2004, three had the team as Frank McCourt’s separate property, and three others didn’t.

Defense rests in Adenhart case

In Santa Ana, Calif., the defense rested in the case of 23-year-old Andrew Gallo, charged with murder in the drunken-driving crash that killed Los Angeles pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others. After a day off, closing arguments will begin Thursday.
