Prep roundup: LC stops Prep in shootout

Sarah Silha scored the clinching goal during a 4-3 shootout as Lewis and Clark (6-0-1 overall) edged Gonzaga Prep 1-0 Wednesday night in a Greater Spokane League girls soccer opener at G-Prep.

The Bullpups (6-1) haven’t allowed a goal in regulation for six consecutive games. LC is ranked No. 2 in the Seattle Times’ poll.

In other GSL openers, Anne Millard scored on a penalty kick in the 80th minute to force OT and also scored during a 5-4 shootout as University (3-0) rallied past host Central Valley (5-1) 3-2. … Junior Tiara Pajimola had two goals and one assist, giving her 13 goals and six assists for the season, as Shadle Park (6-0) posted a 6-0 win over Rogers (1-2) at Albi Stadium. Pajimola hit her second goal, from 25 yards at 50 minutes, left-footed into the upper-left corner. The Highlanders have three shutouts this season. … Alli Floyd finished with two goals and one assist while leading Mt. Spokane (5-1) to a 4-2 win at Ferris. Sarah Harrison of the Saxons (3-1-1) had a goal and an assist 3 minutes apart in the second half. … Forward Mikayla Anderson scored 1 minute before halftime to launch Mead (6-0) toward a 3-1 win over North Central (0-5) at Merkel Park. Freshman Kara Marbury scored the Panthers’ second goal, at 48 minutes.

Cross country

Greater Spokane League: Sixth runner Brianna Trouga helped Gonzaga Prep’s girls (3-0) win the tiebreaker against Shadle Park (3-1) in a three-way meet at Audubon Park that included Rogers (0-4). Shadle and G-Prep were tied at 28 after five scoring runners. Shadle’s Chelsea Chandler and Katie Morris both ran 19:24 to finish 1-2. Among the boys, winner Nathan Weitz (15:30) led Shadle (2-2) past G-Prep (1-2) and Rogers (0-4).

Elsewhere in the league, Vince Hamilton (16:10) and Casey Adams (16:12) ran 1-2 to lead North Central’s boys (2-0) to an 18-37 win at Ferris (2-1). Ferris’ girls (1-2) edged NC 27-28, but Katie Knight (19:11) won for the Indians (0-2). Victoria Karschney (21:35) and Lauren Earthman (21:39) placed second and third for Ferris. … University’s boys (2-0) placed second through eighth, led by Jon Smith’s 16:18, during a 20-43 win over Mead (1-2) at Liberty Lake County Park. Ciara West (21:25) led a 1-5 finish as Mead’s girls (3-0) turned back U-Hi (0-2). … The host Central Valley girls (3-1) placed fifth through 10th, led by Alex Moore (20:08), to defeat Mt. Spokane (2-2) and Lewis and Clark (1-2). Molly Cole (19:15) held off LC’s Hannah Allen (19:25) to help Mt. Spokane edge the Tigers 26-29. LC (2-1) swept the boys race behind Kenji Bierig’s winning time of 15:40. Second-place Hunter Johnson (15:53) helped Mt. Spokane (3-1) defeat CV (1-3).
