Liberty Lake skateboarder sets world record
Teen did 794 blunts, fakies in hour
Cohl Orebaugh, a 14-year-old skateboarder from Liberty Lake, set a world record Saturday for blunts and fakies accomplished in an hour.
“I thought I did pretty good,” he said.
Orebaugh said he exceeded his expectations when he completed 794 blunts and fakies in an hour at Pavillion Park in Liberty Lake. He expected to do around 500 of them.
A skateboarding trick, blunts and fakies are performed on a half pipe. The skater rolls up the side of the pipe and rests the lowest level of wheels on the lip. After a fraction of a second, the skater rocks the board a little and rolls down the side to perform another one on the other side of the pipe.
“It was awesome,” he said about his world record. A few months back, Orebaugh found out the Guinness Book of World Records didn’t have a category for this trick. He contacted Guinness and the organization helped him coordinate an event to become the first record holder.
Orebaugh said there were quite a few people who came to watch him set the record, including friends and family. He also had someone there to time the event and someone to count his blunts and fakies.
An hour of these tricks did take its toll, even on a 14-year-old boy who spends hours every day on his skateboard.
“My feet were completely numb,” he said.
He doesn’t plan on setting any new records in the coming months, but plans to get in contact with Rob Dyrdek, a professional skater who appears in the MTV show, “Fantasy Factory.” Orebaugh said Dyrdek was his inspiration to set a new record.
“He did very well,” said his dad, Chad Orebaugh. “He was very happy.”
