Valleyfest offers more weekend events

The annual Valleyfest community festival is also scheduled for this weekend, with events Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The festival kicks off with the “Hearts of Gold” parade Friday at 7:30 p.m. on Sprague Avenue between University Road and City Hall at 11707 E. Sprague Ave. The event started years ago with just a few entries; now the route bursts with floats, marching bands, classic cars and more.

Saturday events will be held at Mirabeau Point Park and CenterPlace, 2421 N. Discovery Place. Highlights include a pancake breakfast from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. at CenterPlace, a classic car show, a planetarium in CenterPlace and live music in the park. Most events in the park take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Evening events include Taste of the Valley at CenterPlace for adults, with wines and appetizers, plus star-gazing and an outdoor movie in the park at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday’s schedule includes a nondenominational church service at 10 a.m. in the park, a bicycle ride on the Centennial Trail beginning at 11 a.m. and Responsible Dog Ownership Day activities in the park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Check www.valleyfest.org for a complete schedule. Only handicap parking will be available at the park. An STA shuttle will be available from parking at the Spokane Valley Mall and the Pinecroft Business Center on Mirabeau Parkway.
