Man in custody on rape, kidnapping charges
A suspected rapist is in custody after authorities were alerted to a sexual assault early Sunday in north Spokane.
Christopher Michael Clough, 29, was apprehended in connection with the 1:27 a.m. sexual assault and booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree criminal impersonation, according to Spokane police.
The alleged victim did not know the attacker, police said, and it was unclear Sunday what led to the criminal impersonation charge.
After being advised of the attack, the Spokane Police Department’s patrol division and sexual assault unit collaborated to find the assailant. Clough emerged as a suspect and was apprehended within 30 minutes, officers said.

Other local news outlets are reporting that the suspect impersonated a cop and used that impersonation to lure the victim and then (allegedly) rape her.
“Detectives say Clough posed as a Spokane police officer and “detained” a woman in the Corbin Park neighborhood. He then raped her in the park.”
