Search for wanted felon briefly locks down school

The search for a man wanted on assault and weapons charges briefly locked down Liberty Lake Elementary School on Wednesday. Liberty Lake police were looking for Jason B. Brioso, 26, in the 200 block of North Kelsea Court, where Brioso lives with his wife and mother. Brioso tried to leave the house in a Honda Civic; when he saw police, he jumped out of the car and took off, said Sgt. Clint Gibson of the Liberty Lake Police Department. Police set up a perimeter and sealed the area, Gibson said, but were unable to locate him. The elementary school locked down about 2:30 p.m. for less than 30 minutes as a precaution, said Central Valley School District spokeswoman Melanie Rose. After the area had been cleared, Gibson said, a nearby resident called police to say that Brioso had been in his house and offered his 12-year-old son $100 for a ride out of the area. The father ordered Brioso out of the home, and he complied, Gibson said. Brioso, wanted on a warrant for a probation violation out of Idaho, also faces two counts of assault with a firearm and a weapons charge for an incident Monday in which he held his wife and his mother at gunpoint at the Kelsea Court address. He also faces residential burglary and resisting arrest charges from Wednesday’s incident. Brioso, originally from the Post Falls area, is described as 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-5, 130 to 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
