Area roundup: Shock sign receiver Guice for next season

The Spokane Shock announced Tuesday the addition of receiver Dudley Guice to their 2011 Arena Football League roster.

Guice, who played for Northwestern State in 2008, was cut by the Indianapolis Colts before the start of the NFL season.

Women’s soccer

Chelsea Small scored two first-half goals and Idaho (9-3) beat Portland State (4-6) 3-2 in nonconference play in Moscow.

Men’s golf

Led by Peter Gullickson’s 12th-place finish and score of 215, Gonzaga finished in 13th place at the Fighting Irish Grid Iron Classic at Warren GC in South Bend, Ind. Lamar’s Tor-Erik Knudson shot 9-over-par 219 to win medalist honors.

Women’s golf

Whitney French finished with an even-par 215 to share medalist honors with North Texas’ Kelsey Kipp at the Rosce City Collegiate in Corvallis, Ore.

Eastern Washington took 15th with a score of 963, led by Kellie Holmstedt’s 238.

Athlete of the week

Whitworth women’s soccer player Sarah Barentson was named Northwest Conference athlete of the week.
