In brief: Center Pointe to host open house Oct. 14

RIVERSIDE – Center Pointe, 1408 N. Washington St., will have an open house Oct. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. The event celebrates 57 years of service to the community. Center Pointe, formerly Spokane Rehablitation Center, provides social/recreational and educational activities to adults with diverse abilities to empower each to reach their highest potential as an important part of the community, according to its website.

Attendees can enjoy hors d’oeuvres and a special program.

RIVERSIDE – OutSpokane will have its first photo scavenger hunt on Oct. 9.

The hunt will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the downtown library, 906 W. Main Ave., in meeting room 1A. Teams will need to solve riddles and clues to move along in the game. Each team will need to bring a camera. Teams can be three to five players.

Every player will receive a goody bag and prizes will be awarded to the top two teams.

Cost is $20 per team.

Proceeds will benefit the Spokane Pride Parade and Rainbow Festival, to be held June 11.

‘Hire Ability Day’ luncheon Oct. 20

RIVERSIDE – The seventh annual “Hire Ability Day” luncheon will be at the Davenport Hotel in the Grand Pennington Ballroom Oct. 20 at noon.

The luncheon celebrates developmental diversity at work and will feature a keynote address by Neil Romano, former assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The event is complimentary, but reservations are requested by Oct. 14.

Junior Achievement seeks volunteers

SPOKANE – Junior Achievement of the Inland Northwest is seeking volunteers for programs to teach young people about business and economics, including how to manage personal finances and how to run a business, that will be used during the 2010-’11 school year.

Junior Achievement offers programs from kindergarten through 12th grade and teaches volunteers how to use the program materials and work with students.
