The Slice: Thanks for being so neighborly

When I suggested that my parents move here 10 years ago, I told them they would like Spokane because of the people.

Thanks to all who helped prove me right.

Monday’s quiz: Lots of readers identified the indirect local connection to the song “Johnny Angel.”

That 1962 hit was sung by Shelley Fabares of “Donna Reed Show” fame. Years later, she would co-star on the sitcom “Coach” with Spokane native Craig T. Nelson.

Our randomly selected winner is Susan Millhouser of Colbert.

The high school football field most resembling an unimproved pasture: Joyce Mann’s husband, a high school football referee, mentioned Inchelium and Selkirk.

Movie titles that describe dealing with the downtown road resurfacing: “Damnation Alley,” wrote Dan Lambert.

Other nominees included “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World,” “From Here to Eternity,” “The Great Escape,” “Labyrinth,” “Mad Max,” “The Road Warrior,” “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” “Armageddon” and “Asphalt Jungle.”

No one mentioned “The Prisoner of Second Avenue.”

Slice answers: At least a few readers still listen to music on equipment purchased at Hal’s Stereo.

Setting foot in the most churches: In 2008, Jennifer Garrison Stuber’s family visited 52 local churches in 52 weeks.

The Newman Lake weaver, a former English professor, blogged about it at the time and is still mulling the possibility of writing a book.

Dietary regimen: Gwen Spencer said her 15-year-old son, Jackson, has declared himself a teenagarian. “The characteristics of this beast include eating everything in the house that they like then declaring that there is nothing to eat,” she said.

The invisible man: Dan Lynch’s bank checks list his address and phone number, like everyone else’s. But instead of his name they say “Occupant.”

Today’s Slice question: How has the Internet changed your relationship with the phone book?
