Charged A former NBA referee was charged with attacking Hall of Famer and Atlanta Hawks television analyst Dominique Wilkins in a dispute over a clothing bill. Atlanta police said 36-year-old Rashan S. Michel was released early Thursday on $1,000 cash bond after being charged with two counts of simple battery. Michel confronted the former NBA star while he was wrapping up his broadcasting duties after Atlanta’s 85-82 win over Orlando on Wednesday. He claims Wilkins owes him $12,500 for custom-made suits.

Resumed Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby, sidelined for nearly three months with a concussion, resumed skating with his teammates. Crosby has been out since Jan. 6. He took part in a no-contact game-day skate as Pittsburgh prepared for its game against Tampa Bay.

Agreed Head basketball coach Matt Painter has an eight-year contract from Purdue that will pay him at least $2.3 million per year, and assurances that the school will take other steps to keep the Boilermakers competitive. The deal will keep Painter at the school through the 2018-19 season.

Died Boxing trainer Gil Clancy, who helped lead Emile Griffith to welterweight and middleweight titles, died at an assisted living facility on Long Island, N.Y. He was 88.

• The Austrian judo federation says Olympic judo silver medalist Claudia Heill of Austria committed suicide by jumping out of a sixth-story window in Vienna. She was 29. Heill won silver in the under-63 kilogram category at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Hired Wyoming dipped into the past and hired back Larry Shyatt as the Cowboys’ head men’s basketball coach. Shyatt, 59, agreed to a five-year contract and replaces Heath Schroyer, who was fired in February. Shyatt, most recently an associate head coach at Florida, previously coached Wyoming during the 1997-98 season, when he led the team to a 19-9 record.

Investigated Former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, known for his charitable work helping at-risk children, is being investigated by a Pennsylvania grand jury on allegations he indecently assaulted a teenage boy. Sandusky has not been charged. A grand jury examines accusations to determine if evidence warrants filing charges.
