In brief: Free produce, food April 23, May 28

TRENTWOOD – East Valley Baptist Church, 14516 E. Wellesley Ave., and Second Harvest Inland Northwest Food Bank will be handing out food at the food Pantry at the church on April 23 and May 28, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Free produce and perishable products for families in need of food assistance in the East Valley School District will be available and no appointment is necessary. Participants must be present to receive food. Boxes are needed for food.

Frog Regatta Festival scheduled for April 16

ROCKFORD – On April 16, Fredneck’s Saloon will hold the annual Frog Regatta Festival, beginning at 1 p.m.

The afternoon includes hot dogs in the park, three-legged frog race, the leap frog race and the dizzy frog relay in the park; and at 3 p.m., the Frog Regatta at Rock Creek.

The winning frog to swim across the finish line will win $300. The second-place frog will win $200 and the third-place frog will receive $100.

Frogs may be purchased in the park on the day of the festival for $5 or in advance at Fredneck’s, Harvest Moon Restaurant, Banner Bank, Fairfield Bank (both located in Rockford), or at On Sacred Grounds Coffee Shop in Valleyford.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Rockford Lions Club in support of youth and community activities.

Candidate school planned in Valley

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce will have a candidate’s school for people interested in running for public office on April 13, from 1 to 5 p.m., in the Chamber Business Center Conference Room, 9507 E. Sprague Ave.

The school will have workshops on what it’s like to hold public office, organizing and running a campaign, working with the media and where to find out details about community issues.

Participants will receive a reference notebook with information needed to file as a candidate, as well as background information for planning a campaign.

Cost is $25 per person and includes refreshments and materials.
