In brief: Library group’s social moves to new location

LIBERTY LAKE – The Friends of the Liberty Lake Municipal Library’s seventh annual spring social event, A Garden Party, to be held on April 16, will now take place at the Meadowwood Technology Campus, 24001 E. Mission Ave., at 1 p.m. The party was previously scheduled to be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 23515 E. Boone Ave.

The event will feature speakers from the Corbin and Moore-Turner heritage gardens, sharing the history of the gardens and the restorations that have recently taken place. Carol Newcomb of Northland Rosarium will also speak on “Own Root Roses and Why They Work in The Spokane Area.”

Tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased in advance until April 15.

Mayor plans state of the city meetings this month

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane Valley Mayor Tom Towey is planning a series of State of the City presentations this month. Each meeting will also be a community forum with some council members in attendance to discuss any issue residents would like to ask about.

The meeting dates are: April 11, 7 to 8 p.m. at Valley Fourth Memorial Church, 2303 S. Bowdish; April 14, 7 to 8 p.m. at Greenacres Christian Church, 18010 E. Mission Ave.; April 21, 7 to 8 p.m. at Seth Woodard Elementary, 7401 E. Mission Ave.; and April 28, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place.

Schimmels earns program recognition

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane Valley Deputy Mayor Gary Schimmels has reached the bronze level in the Certificate of Achievement in Leadership program run by the National League of Cities Leadership Training Institute. He attended seminars on community vision, leadership, diplomacy, parliamentary procedure and other topics to earn the recognition.
